So sometime this week I will taking over the care of a long-haired
male guinea pig. It's been AGES since I had a long-haired piggie to
care for. Anything of special interest I should know about. he's
been a lone piggie for all his life, so I am hoping that I can
successfully integrate him with my singleton male. If not, I'll
figure something out.

But other than normal basic care, anything different with the long-
haired ones I should consider? I do remember chopping back the hair
on the long-haired one I had way back but he was just a normally (as
in normal for him) not wanting to be clean piggie (the kind that would
always sit in the dirty spot of the cage).

Carefully trim back the hair around the 'butt'...this can get
wet/dirty/matted as they get larger or older. Pigs that get wet/dirty
around the back can also get 'fly blown'. This is a terrible condition
where flies lay eggs in the dirty area then when the eggs hatch the larva
enter the body cavaities. This also happens to sheep. It is awful and no
animal will survive it.
