So, this long-haired guinea pig turned into an Abyssinian guinea
pig.

He looks OLD. Thin, losing his hair --- not mites though from the
looks of things, just old age. His nails needed a really good
trimming, did the first bit when we got him home. Will need to do
more again once he settles in a bit more. Needs a bath. :)

Could surprise me, but I expect he won't live much more than 6 months,
simply because he looks like an old tired piggie. Other pigs I've
had that look this old and tired given me 6 months max. Has some fat
deposits on him (they had that vet checked). Vet says he's in good
health, just an old piggie.

Will need to check the state of his teeth and such. He eats well
though so don't expect his teeth to be an issue.

I would treat for mites anyway. It should be a standard treatment for
new pigs coming from an uncertain environment. Won't hurt him even if
he doesn't have mites.

Definetly have his teeth looked at (including molars). Heart issues
are another possibility.
